These are the coins I picked up yesterday from some coin machines I worked on. Nothing special, just some fun stuff.

Neat. What kind of Coin Machines do you work on?

I repair bank equipment. Coin sorter/counters, coin wrappers, currency counters, check encoders. If it handles money we work on it.

So, have you seen any machines that actually sort out silver for separate handling? I think most current machines reject it, but there have been some folks here who think that They're On To Us.

I did come across some eBay listings a few years ago where NF String & Sons was selling rolls of silver quarters (see this thread). It looks like they're sorting out silver at some level.

Some machines can be calibrated to accept certain coin magnetic signatures. They will reject anything outside of those parameters. So they take non silver coin and reject silver. That's the way coinstars are set up.

And they let you keep the US non-legal tender? Sweet.

I've got a good enough relationship with most of them that it's not a problem. Some of my customers have someone in house who wants them, no problem. At some they save them for me. I've given some tellers silver coins that I've pulled out of machines to educate them, so now they help me saving odd coins and currency. Karma comes around so beside it being good business to be nice it helps my collection.
