darn, that is a shame that it is such a low grade! I donno. Interesting tho. Obverse v reverse, could be a MAD (Mis-Aligned Die). Plus something on the reverse. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... [still thinking, smoke rising to the ceiling.]
Vandalized outside the Mint. The grooves on the obverse, the flattening on both faces, and the fact that the coin is expanded and out-of-round makes this an obvious call.
Yep--a very old "vise job" or possibly recent and re-toned. I'm sure the edge would show signs of flattening as Mike Diamond noted.
