I have a 1914 WW1 German medal that states "Furg Daggerland" on one side and images of a person being honored on the other. What is the material of the medal and is there any value. There are E-bay sites for this medal, but I can't read German and it won't translate. Any information appreciated.
I'd suggest FÜRS instead of "FURG", and VATERLAND instead of "DAGGERLAND". http://i15.ebayimg.com/06/i/001/1e/da/3e21_1.JPG Christian
Hi MojaveDave, What you have here I dont' believe is an actual Medal. I don't know what it says on it, freetranslation.com comes up with nothing. But what I can tell you is the Medal on the "Medal" is the Iron Cross or Eiserne Kreuz, The W in the center stands for Kaiser Wilhelm I and the date at the bottom was the time period it was awarded. On the bottom there are Oak Leaf Clusters which usually denotes the Person earning multiple of this award! I hope I was of some help!
Hmm, I just tried that service out, and it works for me. When you enter "Fürs Vaterland" in that box, FreeTranslation comes up with "For the homeland". In such ultra-patriotic contexts, "For the Fatherland" would be a little better methinks. And yes, Wilhelm (W. II though) is right. Christian
Hi ! Christian, You came up with the right picture, but there is no information about the medal. Just as the picture shows the wording is "Furg Dagerland". Thanks much Dave
Hmm, what SrA Ninemiles wrote sounds about right to me, and I already posted what the the inscription actually says. As for the purpose of this medal or pendant, I don't know - could have been a military decoration, or a "thank you" token for a donation supporting the war. Maybe somebody in a militaria forum knows more about about those medals? Christian
The writing on your coin is a stylized version of fraktur, which is a style of German written text. It does indeed say Fürs Vaterland" - For the Fatherland.
I got one of these medals I don't know much about it , all I know is that I'm willing to sell it if someone wants to make me a generous offer just email me at j.gamboa7091@gmail.com
