I just recieved my 100 pack of 2x2 Double Pocket Flips made by Guardhouse. Comes with blank inserts. I used my last 60 on all my Metal Detecting Silver finds from early this year until now. I will show some pictures of the silver later this evening. Unplasticized Vinyl I recommend these. Are there other just as good 2x2 flips out there?
I like the "slab style" , although more per coin, I think it's a great choice for those more rare coins and the 2x2's for the rest .
I opted for the cardboard 2x2s from guardhouse, mostly because I don't like the way the coins slide around in the flips. The flips looked sturdy to me though.
I totally understand. But I've had bad experiences with cardboard. I once threw away hundreds of different denomination sized cardboard flips because they were cut wrong and when they folded they did not line up correctly. And.. I hate to staple!
the guardhouse ones are good and line up pretty well and more importantly, are pre-cut at the fold correctly so they do fold right and line up pretty well. but yeah, staples staples staples.... never ending staples,,,, you ain't wrong!
So this morning I continued with my 2x2 flips project.. 2 Albums containing - 1 - Walking Liberty Half 1 - Standing Liberty Quarter 6 - Barber Dimes 39 - Winged Liberty Head Dimes 17 - Silver Roosevelt Dimes 8 - Silver Washington Quarters 1 - Silver Shilling All found with my new Metal Detector the Minelab Vanquish 440 Added these just now with my new flips
Very nice project you have going sir. Do you label where you found them ? Perhaps on the back of the insert. I also keep my finds in a separate album.
Not really.. When I have time I'm just going to start writing the date and mint mark if any. A few of the coins are dateless.
For my world coins I opted for vinyl coin pages for a 3 ring binder each page holds 20 coins. However, the binder get's bigger and bigger and bigger.... I'm on a 4" spine currently and either need to start a new book or move up to a 6" or bigger if they make it. Darn thing must weigh 10 pounds currently. as far as world coins, I just tossed them in containers over the years and never got around to organizing until recently, and I'm still finding a jar here, or a drawer there with a pile of world coins I put off from coin roll hunting. Just going to say, mine started with a couple small books too. LOL. looks nice and a million times better than a jar or piles of coins around the house!
Someone stated that the softer more flexible flips are not recommended for coins due to the PVC. I don't like the stiffer ones that tend to crack. Are these 2x's brittle or malleable?
I have a mixed bad of coin holders. A while back, I bought a lot of 2 x 3 plastic holders for all sizes from a company named Bags Unlimited. I checked back with them a while ago and they no longer carry anything for coins. I've bought some 2x2s through Amazon and boxes from some other mail order business. It's potluck with companies that list on Amazon. A mention was made earlier on this thread that some 2x2s don't line up. They were correct and I had to throw away a bunch and then but them from Amos, but only a little to sample their wares. They are pretty good. I hate to spend time stapling. I did buy some plastic 2x2s from Amazon. There was another thread that said to put coins into the next size up because the holes in the 2x2s are tight and they were correct. I'm not going to go back to re-install them in the next size up, but I do for my new purchases. Anyway, again, thanks for all you give us.
That is why I went with 1-1/2", at most 2" 3-ring binders. The D-rings work better than the O-rings for several reasons not least of which is that they hold more sheets. When the 3" or bigger binder gets a lot of weight in them and you stand them up, everything starts sagging because the binder is not very strong. This sagging of the covers and spine allows the vinyl sheets holding the coins to also sag which distorts the holes and can eventually allow them to tear. I store my binders flat.
Yes that is correct.. You can write something simple on the insert such as Coin #1 as written on the submission form and then submit all the coins you have.
un- Plasticized means removal of the softener, not the PVC which is harsh on coins over the long term/
