1910 wheat cent not too long ago, funny when iw as a kid i pulled a 1911 wheatie out of our couch, i was 5 or so
In the past year, about 10 "wheaties" with the oldest in the 30's, one merc dime, one 1955 almost AU Washington quarter and a 1939 Jefferson nickel.
I'm sorry, but I disagree your 5 cent coin is MS, there's quite a bit of wear right in the middle of the beaver. Also, why are you excited about this? You live in Toronto... and you received Canadian change.... I'm confused
My dad gave me a 1941-S Mercury dime that he got in change. I've found some decent stuff in rolls of nickels too.
This question comes up frequently. Usually the problem is there is no time line given. Should say something like This Year or In The Past 5 years or something like that. When I was a kid, for example, I used to find a real lot of Mercury Dimes in change. Also, lots of Liberty Head and even Seated Liberty dimes. Of course when I was a kid there was no such thing as Roosevelt Dimes yet. No such thing as Franklin Halves and no one could even imagine something like a Kennedy Half. Jefferson Nickels were new so all we saw in change was Buffalo and Liberty Head Nickels. AHHHH. The good old days.
Found the other day, in a client's cash register: 2001 S Proof Jefferson. Not worth much now, but I couldn't leave it behind.
Does the 7500 circ. Lincoln's I search, Does the 5000 to 7500 circ. Lincoln's I search each week count?? After all it is change?? Ben "eyes are challenged" Peters
wheaties....have you had your bowl today I know a few friends that work at am pm stores and 7-11 ,A lot of times they find anywhere from 2 to 10 wheaties a week in the donation penny tray and a few silver backs in the register . when I show up I pay them double of the coin face value except pennies I pay a nickle each. I have looked in the trays myself at other stores and just exchanged them coin for coin, the clerks are amazed at what I find in the tray's out of curiosity they start looking next time I came in they ask if I would like to have the ones they found in the tray:whistle:
I found a G-VG 1946 Roosevelt dime in change last night and a guy I work with found a worn silver Quarter. :thumb:
Unfortuantely this is becoming common. Due to the economy there is a massive increase in home robberies, coin store robberies, coin dealer robberies, etc. The people that do the robberies are usually not numismatically inclined so they simply spend the coins as coins. Some go to banks, some just dump in those coin counter machines in stores, some just spend at stores. Also, there are many people that have jars, cans, boxes of coins laying around for that rainy day. It's here so they spend those too. Some have been there for many years. Coin collections inherited by someone with no coin knowledge too will just spend those as money. If things don't improve soon you will see many, many more rare coins poping up in change.
