Hello Everyone! Today I did 6 hour hunt at Brooklyn's McCarren Park. I went to some new spots and I did well. I found 1 US Coin that's been on my Bucket List for a very long time.. I finally found a.. Standing Liberty Quarter I had 4 Silver today - No date - Standing Liberty Quarter 1943 - Silver Washington Quarter 1928 & 1936 - Winged Liberty Head Dimes 1 - Sillver Ring 30 - Wheat Cents An Auxiliary Coast Guard Badge The rest - Misc pics -
A dog tag with a NH phone number...interesting. No sign of the body that the Coast Guard badge was pinned to? Lol.
I really like the SLQ you found. Must have been quite a surprise. I'm trying to figure out whether it's Type 2 or 3. I would vote for 2 since the date is now gone completely (although it could be just as worn down eventually, even for Type 3).
I'm inclined to agree, but that one's so worn that it could be a dateless Type 3. I think I see a D mint mark.
Awesome! You're really killin' it! I think the Coast Guard badge is cool, though in rough shape. And all that silver is lovely, as usual. You'll never guess what the very first silver coin I ever dug was, back around '81 or so. It was a... wait for it... Dateless Standing Liberty quarter! Pretty much like the one you just found. Maybe a teensy bit nicer, but still dateless. Which means it (and yours) were likely struck 1917-24, since they recessed the date in the exergue starting in 1925, to make it more resistant to wear. My detecting "bucket list" (for quarters) would include only the Capped Bust and earlier, since I have found Seated Liberty, Barber, Standing Liberty, and silver Washingtons in addition to the clads. I don't think that's gonna happen, particularly since I'm pretty much retired from detecting now.
