I really like this visually stunning 2020 Mongolia 250-tögrög piece. It's not a "need-to-have" but it's a "nice-to-have" and surely I can afford the 50g COPPER version, I thought. However, APMEX was out of stock, so I registered to get notified. Tonight I got the email saying it's back in stock! Yipppeeeee! I hurried to log on and that's when I saw the price. $73. Alrighty then.
A talon points to the date. I just looked it up, 250 tögrög is worth 9 cents U.S. (I know, it's a numismatic issue, I've paid more than $73 for dimes)
I was naive enough to think this would go for roughly the price of a regular copper round. Say about $1.50 per ounce. Lol. Sigh....
I think it's a beautiful coin, just not $73 beautiful or even $53. I could see $19.95 as the highlight of my copper set.
One is paying the original designer, engineering and manufacturing costs. I wonder if after market prices on this will plummet ... or too few ppl buy them and price stays raised, at least for a while. It's not really a "copper round" but more a work of art you are buying.
Alrighty then, indeed. I do agree with Clawcoins that this is more of an "art medal" than just a "copper round."
