I've been on a bit of a "religious medal" appreciation kick as of late. The designers of the Papal medals between the mid 1800's and mid 1900's really seem to have raised the bar on their art. There are a variety of artisans who produced some stellar designs engraved into dies, then stamped into bronze. Bianchi, Weiner, Giampaoli are but a few. Today I received this one. it is a 1964 Pope Paul VI 2nd year annual medal commemorating the 400th anniversary of Michelangelo's death. I find this medal visually stunning . . . . Z
Anyone have any Klingon or Romulan exonumia? I would love to see what, if anything was produced as props for the movies or series. Too lazy to DuckDuckGo it . . . . Z
Attached are photos of a Winged Mercury 1937 dime which I got from my Father. He was a Navy pilot during WWII in the South Pacific, flying off of carriers. Contrary to current movies, the pilots had lots of free time on their hands and occupied themselves with past times such as this.
They probably did that also, but since no one had much money, a game like poker would have been pointless. I do now that there was a lot of leather available and many men would make items from leather.
