My ancients collection consists of 1 widows mite. After 40 years of collecting every other type of coin and numismatic item I find myself being drawn to the dark side. But I'm unsure of what direction I want to go. Biblical coins, Roman rulers, Medieval. I've learned to buy the book before the coin but most books seem very specific. Is there a good general book to kind of ease me into this side of the hobby? How did you get started in ancients? Thanks for any help.
idk about books...but the fields wide open...with innumerable rabbit holes..and there all connected...welcome to the dark side...
Welcome! Lots to explore !!- I suggest starting here... https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ancient-coins-beginners’-faq-thread.324858/ http://augustuscoins.com/ed/ http://augustuscoins.com/ed/catalogs/themes.html https://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/
I like this online survey but I'm prejudiced since I wrote it. It covers the general categories of ancients as I saw them when I wrote the pages and shows examples that fit. OK, it is not a book but it is free. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/voc.html
