Hello all, Just came across this dime when I noticed that it is only printed on one side. Not sure if it fake or real. It is dated 1997, just looking for a little help on if it is real or not and if it has value to it. Thanks Jason
Well... Somebody with too much time on their hands ground the reverse off this one. Not a mint error. A bored person error.
First, welcome to the neighborhood! I agree with @Randy Abercrombie and @Collecting Nut , but I would like to add that the one obvious giveaway that it is post-mint damage is because the coin is missing the upset rim on the reverse. Before a planchet is struck, it goes through the upsetting mill which raises the rim on both sides at the same time. Since the rim is missing on the reverse, you must immediately conclude that it could not have occurred at the mint. Chris
One more thing.. Coins are struck/minted.. not printed. Paper Currency is printed I totally agree with damaged. Not a Mint Error.
