I won these 2 coins on a auction. $57 and seller wants $9 shipping. Only thing is seller has not shipped (communication from seller is poor) and I am thinking of reverse transaction with pay pal. Does anyone think these coins are worth hanging in there for? They look like shipreck coins, I just cant read much on them to tell year or what they are.
There is no way to spin this, except that you overpaid on a pair of common coins. https://www.ebay.com/sch/Poland/45156/i.html?_from=R40&LH_Sold=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&LH_Auction=1&LH_BIN=1&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=37129&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=50&LH_Complete=1&_fosrp=1&_nkw=1/24
People who buy things and back out later give the place a bad rep! I did it recently when the seller would not ship to a POB. I gave him an address that was different from my PayPal but in the end, he filled a dispute that he dropped. I don't go on Ebay much an the only other time I won ($3) an item I forgot to pay. The next time I went on - weeks later, it was no longer available. Bottom line, YOU BID and win, YOU PAY or you are a like the person I just wrote about in my post.
I would say that it depends on the amount of time that has passed since the end of the auction. If more than 7 days, and they have not been shipped, I would look at getting your money back, otherwise ‘buyer’s remorse’ is not an excuse. I’m sure we have all made purchases that we regret, but you just bite the bullet and move on.
I paid but seller is not shipping......so how long would you wait? Its been almost 2 weeks now. That and is a U.S seller, so I am not sure why they are not shipping, I have sent 3 emails.
2 weeks and no communication? Yeah, I’d be looking at getting my money back. If eBay, open a claim with them for a refund. If not, see what options are available for them to assist.
They don't look Spanish to me. I would get your money back as they have not been shipped according to you.
If they were advertised as "Spanish shipwreck" coins then it is false advertising. Another reason to get your money back.
That is a 1/24 thaler from medieval Poland. 2 weeks without shipping and without a response - I would probably cancel. My curiosity is another - there are several threads you have like "I purchased this coin, I paid a lot, have no idea what it is". Do you see the pattern & problem here?
Yeah they were just advertized acient coins. I dont really have a prob with coins, just if I should keep waiting for seller to get back with me after sending 3 emails. I know there could be something that came up but usually a quick email with a update would put me at ease.

Yeah, I just got into the acient coins about a month ago. I really need to do more homework on my end before bidding online,. My issue on some other coins I got I wasnt sure if they might be real. I was to get a certificate of authentication but didnt or I have been seeing these foreign coins in lot type boxes and have no Idea on them. But on these 2 its not really the money so much as I wonder if I should stick with waiting. I dont want to seem like i am the guy that bids and cancel transaction, poor communication with seller has me wondering, kinda like that gut feeling something is not right or mixed up. I have sold bought lots of coins on ebay before doing silver. I may just keep my acient coins I buy to local dealers since I am new to them.
Something to think about. Just about anyone can issue a COA. They can look legit and fancy but not be of any real value. Reminds me of "OLD" looking coin wrappers that the seller lists as being full of unsearched coins. Anyone can buy old wrappers and wrap coins themselves.
Your right there, reminds me of when my nephew got a sword for $30 and it came with a fancy paper in a cheap folder that said it was a true samurai sword. Thats another reason I am glad I found this site, some people here can tell me if they look real. i am thinking its pretty much if they have been graded by a pro company is one of the best ways to get authentication.
Those are definitely not Spanish coins, mainland or colonial. They look like Polish minors. FYI, here are a couple of Spanish colonial coins, 8 reales, of Potosi, Boliva (El Peru), to give you an idea of what to look for, in terms of general appearance: Also, avoid salvaged Spanish coins, as a general rule. There are very few exceptions, such as the second coin illustrated, but there are just too many worn, corroded, harshly cleaned, extremely underweight and basically numismatically worthless salvaged coins. There appears to be a healthy market for salvaged coins with certificates, however. Some collectors focus on the certificate and wreck rather than the coin. I've never done that, but to each his and her own.... If you can, as a rule, go for quality when possible. It will pay off in the long run.
I agree with others that these are not Spanish wreck coins and that, since the seller has still not shipped or even replied two weeks after payment receipt, you should file a complaint with eBay and get your money back through PayPal. If you are specifically interested in shipwreck coinage and/or Spanish colonial and Latin American coins in general I can recommend the dealer/auction house of Daniel Frank Sedwick. They have their own very informative website, run several well-attended auctions a year, and even sell less expensive items directly on eBay. They also authored "The Practical Book of Cobs" which is in its 4th (2007) edition and perhaps the best introduction, at least in English, to Spanish colonial coins. It's written in a straight forward fashion and contains a wealth of information on 16th-18th century types, styles, mints, and assayers. It also includes a gazetteer of over 50 known Spanish wrecks with details on their discovery/recovery and known or suspected contents.
