Looking through some uncirculated state coins. Came across this 2008-P NM 25c coin with what appears to be either a DDR-005 or a Die Clash, or both? The anomaly appears closer to the DDR-005 and while reviewing the pictures at VarietyVista saw the picture describing a Die Clash and mine seems to look very much like it. The package says "NM 50 States Comm 25C 2008-P Uncirculated-60" then gives item number of 4576.60. States from Littleton Coin Co. Littleton, NH. Looks very much like the die clash picture shown in VarietyVista: This is another picture of a "normal" 2008-P NM 25c Uncirc coin I have: Pictures below from VarietyVista. Left shows the die clash and right shows the strong northward spread in the loop of the sun symbol. http://www.varietyvista.com/09c WQ Vol 3 States/2008PNMDDR005 quarter.htm Why are both shown in the DDR-005 Stage B photo area? What say you? ~Rob
I have discovered a second 2008-P NM 25c Uncirc coin with similar/same anomaly as previously indicated coin. They are from same bundling of packages as the first coin. It too does not have the other two characterizing die markers as indicated in VarietyVista's DDR-005 Stage B photos. Again, these pictures appear similar to the photos in VarietyVista. The coins do not have gouges above the U in UNITED, nor do they have the abraded hair. Could this be another variety? ~Rob
Could be that no-one has sent a coin in to them with an earlier die stage. Stage A says unconfirmed, and stage B is emds with the gouges above U and the abraided hair. The contact e-mail for Dr Wiles is at the bottom of the link you posted. He is a nice man and has helped me in the past
