I just want some inexpensive (couple bucks a coin for VG-ish to F+ condition) oldish coins to better my small collection. I was thinking US or Canadian small and large cents, nickels, dimes, and perhaps a quarter or two from 1900-1920. What would you get?

    Barber nickels...
There are some good deals to be found for a fair price.
Look in a dealers junk bin for some for a couple bucks.

Indian head cents, Liberty nickels...these can be had in common dates in VG-F for $1-$3.

The dimes can be had; Mercury dimes in VG-F no problem, and Barber dimes in G-VG for $2-$3.

Quarters will be more difficult. You could probably pull off a G-4 Barber quarter for $3 with some searching.

I'd go with the Barber Nickels. Other than the 1885, 1886, and 1912-S; it's a reasonable series to assemble.
