Hey guys I have got some money to spend and I am down to 2 coins (both Morgans). 1881 CC PCGS MS 64 or a 1885 CC PCGS MS62DMPL. The 1885 is going to be slightly more expensive but I'm leaning towards buying it. Any opinions? Thanks
I'd go for the 1885 but its your money. Only you can decide what you really want. DMPL Morgans are very attractive coins.
I hate to give you conflicting advice, but I'd go for the 1881. MS-62, 61, and 60 coins are difficult to sell -- they have too many bagmarks. These are going to show up even more on a DMPL coin.
I don't think you've supplied enough information to the people on CT. Do you plan to focus on CC-Mint coins? Have you set a MS-threshold for your collection? Are you looking for a sample of the type? It is hard to recommend one or the other sight unseen. If you have personally inspected them, and are still undecided, I'd go for the one with the most eye-appeal. If your gut doesn't tell you which to choose, it is hard to select one in the abstract. Buy the coin, not the slab.
I've decided to focus collecting Morgans in MS condition, I have 10 common date MS coins, and I wanted to purchase my first Morgan CC mm. Just was curious what other people much more experienced would buy. I love how the DMPL looks on the Morgans, but Indianhead is right the bag marks do show more.
