3 molar Nitric Acid?

    I'm a little surprized that so many mention using Nitric Acid. Sulfuric Acid for a penny will produce a fantastic blue colored solution. If left in an air clean invironment, really great looking, diagonal shapped crystals will form as the solution evaportes. The Copper Nitrate crystals are not nice looking at all.
    Of course you could just purchase the CuSO4 crystals but not as much fun.
    There is a chem class dedicated to Crystalology you know.
    Each coin used with different acids produces some really strange crystals.
