Not the best pics to judge by, but given the look I would say yes, both appear to have been cleaned. The copper less so, and it's definitely in better shape than the first you posted. The 5 cent coin looks like it might even have been corroded.
I am curious on the first piece as well. I see something in a few of the letters but the coin looks in the picture ok to me. I blew it up and didnt see anything alarming. The other coins I can not see well enough to make a comment one way or the other,.
There's no debris in the crevices on the first one so that would make me think it had been cleaned. You don't hang around that long and not build up a little dirt. But on the second copper I don't think it's been cleaned, at least, not anytime recently. Ribbit
That's pretty much it spock, the coin is almost spotless. It has too much honest wear to have not gotten a little dirt on it in the years it spent in circulation. And if you look closely at the obv you can see 2 small hits that do have dirt in them - but only those 2 spots. On the rev, again if you closely, you can see faint lines. I think in hand it would look worse than it does in the pics.
I see it on the 1917 and the 1924, but the 1915 looks ok besides maybe a scratch ot two on the reverse.
AHA - caught you - spock has not posted in this thread. I would want to see both of them in hand to make that determination. I see what could be - finger prints on the reverse, but even with my magnifying glass could I see the hairlines. Pictures too little for Mark.
I got this 1918 large penny. It was $2 US with shipping. I just wanted to add a large penny to my small but growing collection. It's a small pic, but I don't think it looks recently cleaned. Nice, old, and toned! Also, is this an average price ($1.50 + $0.50 S&H) to pay for a run-of-the-mill canadian large cent? Just wondering, thanks.
Well I do not know if it is average price or a good price, but I wish I could get some US large cents that looked like that for $2.
Thats why I also collect them. You get a whole lot of coin for the money in those Canadian Lg Cents....really, Canadian in general seems a bargain compared to US. I got started while still living in Detroit.
