I 'd have to go F-12. Photograde shows VF as having complete tail feathers.

    That's fair too.

1857 FEs almost always have weakly detailed tail feathers. This must be taken into account when grading these. 1858s are usually much better.

I think it will grade VF.

The coin appears to have been cleaned, details.

I'd say vf20-25. Looks like a decent example

The reverse shows a bit more wear than the obverse. It certainly looks to have been cleaned in my opinion. Nice coin especially a free one lucky you!

    Uncleaned VF20 IMO.

1857 was a crazy year at the US mint. There were over 20 different varieties of the Flying Eagle Cent. I took a stab at looking up the OP coin but the images didn't make it possible.
Some of the dies for FE Cents were clashed with dies from different denominations of coins. Many believe that workers at the mint were playing with the presses. Fun area of the hobby to collect.

No offence intended, but do you have a Red Book?

Didn't anyone notice how porous it is? Still, a freeby FE cent has to be a good thing.

Interesting, for porous ancients, a Renaisance Wax treatment will help it to look less porous, but not sure how people would view this one.
