Hello, I have a 2010 gold Canadian Maple Leaf coin which has a reddish spot on the edge. Can anyone tell me what caused that and is there any way to remove it? Thank you in advance for your help.

Looks like toning . Leave it alone , just protect the coin.

Likely caused by the tiniest of impurity in gold, possibly a few copper atoms?

It isn’t problematic and I’d also recommend you leave it alone. You are likely to cause damage trying to “fix” something that is not a problem.

This is not really my world but some see copper spots like this as a good sign that the coin has not been messed with. A spot like this, on the edge, would not bother me.
