    Hello all,

I was lucky enough to snag this 1874 Indian head penny which I would call red, I’m not sure if the pictures do it justice. My question is there is a black spot on the head as you can see, should I attempt anything at all such as acetone to remove this spot or let it be? I really don’t trust any methods but I would like to get this one graded before I send it off to my listings on eBay. I don’t know if this will recuse the grade substantially or if not get a grade at all?

Thank you in advance you guys rock! 21C991BC-63B2-41B9-8D39-0950D635BDA7.jpeg C3BA8DF0-435D-4740-A6E3-69E74AF2382B.jpeg

looks more like RB to me and yes you should get it graded I think it's $200-$300 to the right buyer no don't do anything to the spot in my opinion it won't really effect the grade.

Don't mess with the coin. Sell it as is. Acetone won't hurt but it won't remove the spot. One of the services could reduce the darkness of the spot but it's not worth the cost in relation to the value of the coin.

It’s a lot more red in hand then what they pictures turned out to be and I didn’t have time to get the lighting perfect I hope it would grade as a red but RB is good also!

So you think it’s not worth getting it graded? Like I had stated it looks a whole lot more red then these lousy pictures I took quickly a lot brighter

Sellers picture's looks so much better you paid $283 I can now see the red devil if you paid this much then I don't recommend you getting it graded it might cost you $100-$200 for pcgs-ngc to grade it. But it might be worth anacs to grade but wait for more opinions about that. 20201010_214459.jpg 20201010_214511.jpg

Red and red brown 1874s can draw strong prices. Don’t meddle with that coin.

That’s what I stated I did not put any time in these pictures just snapped them to get an opinion on the black spot and his pictures are how it looks in hand for sure. If it is red it at least needs to get a 62 which I think it has a chance for that for me to at least break even. I was not trying to make money on this one and I will still be happy if I lose some. But if you guys don’t think it’s worth grading I may pass but you will see it back up one of these days!

Dang he does take great pictures though. I’m still working on my lighting and I only use an iPhone with a decent macro lense which seems to do okay. I wonder if he messes with the warmth and color of pictures because I noticed when I post coins it reduces the coin by a large percent of its color which sucks..
