I recently picked up 2 new Roman Republics on the cheap, which is always nice since I still don't lack too many-after all these years.

The P. Fonteius P.f. Capito was originally in an ANACS slab, so of course, it had to be freed.

    AR Denarius
O: Helmeted and draped bust of Mars right, with trophy over shoulder; P • FONTEIVS • P • F • CAPITO • III • VIR around.
R:Warrior on horseback galloping right, thrusting spear at kneeling enemy in Gallic helmet, who holds sword in right hand and shield in left; to lower left, a second enemy warrior kneeling right; Gallic helmet and shield to lower right; (MN) • FO(NT) • TR • MIL above.

    Crawford 429/1; Sydenham 900; Fonteia 17; BMCRR Rome 3851-5; RBW 1536.

The moneyer was likely a nephew of Manius Fonteius and possibly a friend of Cicero. The reverse probably depicts the exploits of his uncle while governor of Narbonese Gaul, 76 - 73 B.C. His uncle was also a moneyer, striking c. 85 B.C.

O: Diademed head of Fortuna right; P • R upward to left, FORT downward to right.
R: Palm frond and winged caduceus, bound with fillet, in saltire; wreath with fillet above, III • VIR across field, Q • SICINIVS below.

I really like them both. I have an example of the first that I posted not too long ago, but not the second.

Thank you. I am enjoying your "Republic phase" as you are getting some very nice coins! I wish I had some of the ones you have been recently absconding... well done. Yeah, I also know you got killer deals for them!

Cool coins, I have none of them, thus a bit jealous :)

Those are both great for "cheap" coins @Mat . Not sure which I like more!
