I have been brought 6 more coins in the market for verification and possible purchase. All are outside my comfort zone, so I can I beg some assistance again? Fourth is identified on it's ticket as Ptolemy VI Tetradrachm. Weighs 12.84g and measures about 27mm across. Is this correct ID, and any reason it should not be right?
Hi, This is a year 2 coin of Ptolemy IX or X. I would go with Ptolemy IX (ca 116/115 BCE), but I don't have ready access to my books for a definitive ID. These were issued only a few years apart so it's easy to get them wrong. There was a lot of turbulence and these rulers were in competing control of Alexandria around that time. P.S., Ptolemy IV did not normally issue many tetradrachms with portraits of Ptolemy I, as this one has. There were only a few from Cyprus. He is responsible for the Serapis & Isis tets. - Broucheion
