I would rather go back to symbols of our beloved Liberty than any modern era president.

Now Washington, Franklin, Jefferson, and Hamilton I do not mind since I consider them Founding Fathers.

With Susan B. Anthony, Sacajewa now on coins, I expect there to be a Martin Luther King coin, someone for the Latino's; maybe Santanna since he killed those at the Alamo, and maybe someday Bill Gates or George Soros.

I prefer Ms. Liberty in all her grace and splendor.

Can you explain the logic behind that? That is like saying we should put Bin Laudin on the coins for the Arab-americans because he killed the people in the WTC.

The difference is that Santa Anna was the proper leader of his nation when the US attempted to (creatively) annex Texas. Santa Anna attacked the Alamo in defense of his nation, although his tactics there may not have been gentlemanly, at least he was acting appropriately by being there defending Mexico. Remember that history is ALWAYS written by the victors, and the outcome of the Mexican American war (and the Battle of the Alamo in particular) are no exception.

My understanding is that Santa Ana and the government he represented was oppressing both hispanic and anglo settlers in Texas. I could be wrong, but I don’t think hispanics look upon him as a hero.

    J-Lo, maybe ! :D

As I understand it, the bill which has passed the House, but hasn't been voted on in the Senate, expressly provides that no president is to be depicted while he is alive, no matter what his/her position in line would otherwise be. If it weren't for that provision, the sitting president would ultimately be appearing during her reign - oops, I mean her administration.

Which will mean that Bill could be on two coins...a dollar coin and a solid gold spouse coin. Everything that Teddy Roosevelt envisioned when he directed the mint to produce the coins we all love and collect will be for not...especially when the mugs of Cleveland, Fillmore, Hoover, Taft, etc. will grace our coins instead of something like this:

I possibly misread it - but I believe that the new 24k gold coin is to be a $10 and bear the First Ladies. I'll have to go look it up I guess.
