I like error coins that are so obviously wrong that even a non-collector can identify there is a problem. They may not know what the problem is but they know it’s just wrong. Allow me to share my small collection of missing clad layer Ike dollars. The 1971 is PCGS graded MS63, the 1972 is ANACS graded MS62, and the 1976 is raw. The scratches in the PCGS coin photo are all on the holder. It looks like someone took a belt sander to the plastic. I’ll try to take a better photo with different lighting tomorrow. If you have an Ike missing a clad layer, PLEASE POST A PHOTO. Very best regards, Collect89
Awesome pics, especially the first coin. So Far, the top error coins that I've found so far are =penny, dime, and half dollar blank planchets, =many Washington Dollars Missing Edge Inscription, =Many half dollars struck through small scrap copper pieces (I think the copper was getting shaved off the edge during the striking process and then would get struck into another half), =several partial collar broadstrike halves =I've also found many minor errors that were probably not worth keeping, but I still kept.
These three are missing the obverse clad layer so only the obverse is copper colored. The reverse of all three look normal or perhaps a little weakly struck. Very best regards, collect89
I had intended to put this thread in Error Coins. (My Bad). If it is convenient, could an administrator please move this thread over to Error Coins. Thanks in advance and very best regards, collect89
additional photos of the slabs There is apparently no RED or RED-BROWN designation from the TPG on missing clad layer errors.
I want to branch into error coins eventually... they are insanely cool, but the good ones are the ones I can't afford.
