    Hello everyone,
I recently bought this 1892 Half Dollar, but I will receive it in at least two weeks.
So, I would be very grateful if you experts could call the grade for this coin. I just want to know if I paid more or less than I should have.

F+ details, but yes it's cleaned. Gonna say $30 tops. Probably less.

    Uhh.
I bought it because I believed it was at least a VF20 coin grade.:banghead:

VF - All seven letters of word LIBERTY on headband must be strong. Edges of ribbon will show wear.

F - All seven letters of word LIBERTY should show.

    I don't see them

I can faintly make out the upper portion of each letter in LIBERTY. Definitely not full letters. Maybe in hand with better lighting you could see more.

    That's what makes it VG

No argument here. My F grade was based on to me the rest of the coin looks a little better than VG and I was giving a little benefit of the doubt that in hand would show better details as the lighting is too bright. In any case, the coin appears cleaned to me, so definitely a Details grade.

The cleaning will make a coin appear to be a higher grade. Obverse is worse than the reverse. The obverse is VG the reverse is F. When you combine them, you still get VG as there is no 11 grade.
$30 may be a little harsh. Someone might want it for $35-$40 as long as it is disclosed that this coin is details.

I know that the book says full Liberty = Fine.
But overall I think the detail is there though the Liberty is weak.

Fine sharpness, but it has been cleaned and has some nasty scratches. Both of those defects prevent it from receiving a straight grade. For pricing purposes, the value would equal to a Good.

I think F12 details, cleaned/scratched. Value for a G according to numismedia retail is about 30$. Retail, of course.
I don't think the coin in the OP is close to VF. here is a VF, for comparison.

I was amazed at the coin's appearance and didn't realize that the grade could be less than what I was viewing. For me the grade seemed to be VF20 or more. I was wrong!!
Thanks to all of you who taught me one more lesson.
