1. Surfaces look original. 2. I don't like the color (but that could be the lighting.) 3. As for grade, I'd say Fine. 4. As for variety (die or otherwise), I'll have to leave that for someone with the "book".
Opinion: She's beautiful! Second opinion (less important): F-12, scratched. Looks like she got into some goo that was mostly removed. I still see traces on the reverse between "One" and "Cent" and between the wreath and the word "AMERICA", from 2 o'clock to 5 o'clock.
I don't agree with Mark_H. I don't think it is S-197, I think it is something much better. Mark, note the "bald spot" in the center of the head. S-197 does have that same bald spot and at least one other variety does as well. And look just right of the top of the B and tell me what you see. Coinzip, is this yours or something you are considering buying?
I also think she's a S-210. Nice catch Conder! You can send her to me and I'll give her a good home, CZ! Ribbit
Good catch Conder, I've been told by several Large Cent guys its a S-210. Condition rarity comes into play, I'm told there are not many high grade S-210's, most are low grade and or damaged. The coin does not belong to me, but I do have the honor of photographing it for a collector budy of mine......... BTW he payed about 100 bucks for it and offered it to me for 200........before I showed him my Sheldon Book. Then he wanted to buy my sheldon book.
That one has a chance of being in the top ten so your friend should be giggling about now. I believe the dies clashed and caused them to have poor strikes, which is evident on the pics you provided and this one may grade a little higher than F-12 because of it. :kewl: Thanks for sharing it with us! :thumb: Ribbit
Alan, Tell you buddy you have a buyer or buyers I should say lined up for the $200. Some may even give him a nice tip.. LOL..
