Hi gran, What you are describing sounds like a grease filled die caused the missing "L". There is no added premium for these, and they are quite common, the small ripple sounds like it could be the starburst effect I've read about latley? Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. But it sounds like they used the Die too long and teh wear and tear was starting to show on the coins, also no added premium. WELCOME TO CT! Zeke, Yes there are several different head sizes, Though I dont think this was pre-meditated, it just slowly evolved into different sizes, there are in fact 8 different hub types for the obverse, Lincolns head has changed quite a bit over the last 100 years!
Hello rlm, Can you comment on this 1924S for me? The color of the coin is something between the two photos. The coin is not UNC but when I saw the strike, I just had to put it in my Dansco Lincoln album. Specifically, do you think that a coin with this kind of strike could get UNC money even though it is AU? Very best regards, collect89
Not sure just what "unc money" really is. MS-60 prices are $140 PCGS, Numismedia $64/$84, or greysheet $85/$95. Then you tack on where and how you are going to sell it. Pretty much, you can pick your own answer Maybe the best answer I can give you is this http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=28125&Lot_No=25080. That is ICG certified and I do not think as nice as yours is. They got $80 and I would expect your to go for at least as much under comparable circumstances.
