I know it is a long shot. I wonder if this coin is a 2001 DDO-001 Stage B cent. The description for this type of error coin is a light spread to "LIBERTY" and notches. I have been looking at the various pictures on the error sites and discovered the light spreads to be very subtle indeed. I'm just wondering if the "LIBERTY" on my coin fits the bill? I noticed very subtle indications, especially on the B and the RT. I have avoided large magnification, as I believe @Paddy to be stating in other posts, and just taken the pictures and used the zoom function on my image viewing software. Again, I know it is a long shot but am interested in other's opinions.

Doubled Die issues fall under the Variety category not the mint error category.

The difference between a mint error or variety is a mint error occurs during the planchet or striking division of the minting process and a variety happens during the die division of the minting process. So a mint error is a malfunction or human error when the equipment is not adjusted properly or a malfunction occurs.

I don't see the "light spread" on LIBERTY. Maybe I am wrong, but I always thought that "light spread" meant that there is a fine line displayed on the vertical leg of a letter.

So this is why there are various Stages found within the DDO/DDR lists on the various coin sites, such as VarietyVista? The stages are different Varieties?

    Thanks Paddy.

cpm9ball... I believe I see the "light spread" on the vertical leg of the R.

I know it could just be my imagination but when I look at some of the pictures on VarietyVista I don't see where they are calling a "light spread" on letters. I see subtle lines to the eastern aspect of the B as well. I see a notched RTY to the northwest as well. Some of what is called a DDO/DDR is very difficult to identify, or discern from a DDD or MD in my humbled opinion.

I have gone through hundreds of "pennies" now and believe I am identifying the MDs and the other anomalies that are not DDO/DDR... I just don't want to pass up a DDR/DDO so I figure I'd ask the opinion of experts or others doing this far longer than I have.

    Thanks Rick.

I only pointed out what I saw on the "LIBERTY" because this is what VarietyVista had. I also noted other areas with subtle lines to the "WE TRUST" mostly to the "TRUST." I also believe the beard and lower hair aspect to be thicker than most coins I've gone through. If so, this would fit Wexler's definition for the DDO-001. I'm just saying what I'm seeing and am open to advise/opinion. Some pics are below.

The beard seems thicker, as does the lower aspect of his hair (to some degree).

    Subtle lines noted to the R, S and T. Maybe the E... 2001 Zn 1c DDO.001 Stage.B.1g.arrow.jpg

It is confusing to me, as I see pictures from various DDO/DDR sites with subtle indications of the anomalies. If this is not a DDO-001 stage B, or other variety, than I certainly don't see where some indications are a DDO/DDR and others aren't. I have learned quite a bit about DDD and MD and the like and am better at spotting them, which is the reason I am not posting every one. I accept that this coin is not a DDO/DDR if experts/more experienced coin collectors say it is not. Just want to know.

    Thanks!

    Lets check markers .

Wexler marker states: A small die gouge (dot) can be found above the 2nd zero in the date.

See if you can see the dot ...

    Rick,

Yes, I do believe I see a small dot above the second 0 (zero) in the date. The coin is circulated and is worn but I see something there. The distance is approximately that of the Wexler picture. Pictures below:

Wow!! Thanks Rick. My first one. What do you think the value is? I plan on keeping it but... I know it was in circulation and without the grade...

These minor ddos, have no meat on the bone .
But, their good practice for cherrypicking ...

Cool. Thanks. Still a keeper for me, as it is my first DDO of any kind. Thanks for your help and knowledge.
