This is my 1922 Peace dollar. I was given this for Christmas last year. I believe this is in EF condition. This, in my opinion, is one of my most beautiful coins... You must remember I am only 16 yo and I've only been collecting for 2-3 years so please don't judge my common coins.
Those thumbnail photos are difficult for me but it may even make a low AU grade. It's a very common date in this series but it does have great eye appeal. Christmas is 80 days away so try asking for a 1921 this year.
That is just how I like my Peace dollars: full white with blazing luster. It's a beauty. 10 from me. Super clean fields. That one might be worthy of third-party grading. Can't say from the pics on this small screen, but that looks to have MS65 potential, which is where those common date coins cross the hundred-dollar threshold. MS66? Don't hold your breath, but who knows. I have owned one in a PCGS MS65 old green holder with an MS65 grade that was not that nice. (It was overgraded, but you get the idea.)
EF? No way man, that coin is a solid GEM BU (MS65) Who gave you that coin for Christmas and who told you it was XF? I don't have a gem grade 1922 to show you, but here is an MS65 1922-D for comparison to your coin. So while 1922 is a common date for Peace Dollars, there is nothing common about your coin, it is outstanding.
Yeah, that does look like it's in remarkable condition. If you haven't already, you should put it in some sort of protective holder to make sure it doesn't get scratched or stained.
Thank you for your posts! Looking forward to seeing more. You have a nice collection from what I see here. I was 12 when I got a couple of Morgans owned by my pappy, along with a franklin half and a WWII era Canadian quarter. I had been dabbling in the coin scene before then, but that was a catalyst, one of the Morgans was my great-grandfathers pocket piece, still in his pocket when he passed away. (scary?) It spurred me into a journey which has defined my life as a history buff and a lover of "the finer things." I am 18 years old now, a college student, and I have heard plenty of negative remarks about how I am so "weird" for collecting coins. So, when possible, I'd always make an excuse to show off in middle school and high school. The other kids, when they got to hold 17th-century coins, realized what they had been missing out on. Now, I've given away parts of my collection to some of them to help them get interested in something tangible and valuable, rather than collecting video games which are liabilities, much less of an asset, even if the coin market was to tank. (fingers crossed.) My advice to you as a young man is to collect what YOU want to. My mistake was collecting by year or collecting what other people liked. It left me rather poor, and unhappy with my collection. If you like cheap coins, go for it! If you like silver, fine, but collect what your heart wants, because your collection, in the end, is for you and not anyone else. Reading your posts, I found myself surprised at your age, you are very articulate. You are my younger brother's age, and he has zero interest in my coins. I will send you a message. Sorry for the long post, I didn't expect to write it, but it just came to me and made me a little sentimental haha
That is a nice Peace Dollar. Much better than EF condition and I agree with those who have it at MS65. I gave it a 9 only because of the low relief of the design itself. Not sure if you've seen or used this before but here is a link to PCGS photograde. https://www.pcgs.com/photograde#/Peace/Grades Although you can't change your user name you can change your avatar. A nice tight crop of this Dollar might be a thought....
This coin was given to me by my grandmother... The website it was bought from? I don't know if it is authentic then... if you guys are saying what I have is amazing. Just from looking at it does it look authentic?
I'll add a little if I may. Judging from the too small pics I would grade it a low MS. Maybe a 62 or a 63. Remember, we would need better pics to give a more accurate 'guess' and grading from pics is just a guess. Walk your Morgan and Peace down to a reputable dealer and let him/her have a hands on look. I have a feeling it will be more than EF.
The Morgan dollar is for sure EF... graded by an expert collector... The Liberty Dollar on the other hand has never been graded... I was looking through my red book and it seemed to match the description of whatever I found... I just graded it EF just because I didn't want to get ahead of myself
Honestly, there are expert collectors and expert collectors, more than one opinion is never an error.
More than one opinion is always needed... that's how science works... why is coin collecting any different?
