I have had this 1972 Kennedy Half-Dollar for about 30 years and have never seen any other coin like it. I received it when I was requesting Kennedy's and Ike's from my bank to give my four kids as part of a reward system. One of the coins was a 1972 Kennedy that stood out immediately as visibly 'odd' compared to the others. They're also visible as an texture change from the obverse and reverse of the coin at the raised edge as well. The obverse has a fine satin finish, much like a standard Kennedy but a slightly lighter color. However the reverse is a shiny finish that is not quite as mirror like as a proof-struck coin but notable more shiny than typical. I have never been able to find anything on any Kennedy, or other 1972 mint set or special minting that could account for this uncommon planchet or finish in 30 years. Can anyone shed some light on what this is or what it is worth?

Looks to me like it was plated with something while being supported by those "spots". In the first close-up, those look a bit like "windows" onto a normal clad edge.
Great pictures. this coin was mounted in a bezel and plated, the copper marks you see are where the bezel made contact to hold the coin inside of it before it was all plated. truth be told it could have been a money clip, a pendant, a belt, or some sort of key fob, I can't say for sure, but that is what you are seeing as far as how this looks the way it does.
I would guess that someone used this coin for jewelry and these marks were made by a bezel or something similar.
