The reason I said that is because the word DIME in Rev. doesn't have any marks of the extra strike. And also the plate is neat, showing very clear that was a MINT ERROR. To help you to identify the error. There's a INVERTED REVERSE ON OBERSE and an INVERTED OBERSE ON REVERSE. This coin I have from my weekly stop at the Bank asking for ROLLS. I putted 4 images for light; I'm not soo good in taking pictures. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERY BODY.
It looks like the dime was struck and flipped over and was struck again. Below I have flipped your images so it is easier to view the coin.
Just I noted the extra marks on the rim also. Later I'll check all shape outside the rim. Yes, seem like was made 2 times. (so I have 20 cents in a coin). Thank for your comments. CORRECTION It's something else because the extra images are inverted or mirrowed.
This looks like a very strong die clash. The two dies struck each other with nothing in between transfering the images on to each other, then transfered the image to each planchet that followed until the damage was caught and the dies either removed from use or the clash polished out. Richard
A nice die clash I have a dime 2000 with a die clash that one is nice you could see it with the naked eye. Jazzcoins Joe
Hi Carlos. It's a cool coin to have as is. I would just put it in some type of holder and put it in the collection. The cost of grading would be much more than the value. Just my opinion.
getting this coin graded would cost more than the coin is worth. Though ths is a real strong clash I would expect it to sell for $10 - $15 on a good day maybe a little more if you find someone who is REALLY into die clashes. Richard
$10 tops, on an excellent day. Save your money, don't get it slabbed. Anyone who collects these would recognize it for what it is.
new employee in phili? Your dime is the third one I have seen with an error during 1994 minting year. The funny thing is, the errors are different. I saw one where the torch side is off set about 20 degrees to the left. I just got one where the toerch side is off set about 20 degrees to the right, and the final nickel layer is missing, but the copper layer is there. I wonder if they were orienting a new employee that day, and if he/she is still working there....lol
I agree, extra fine 1994 clad no worth grading. But if were still in a mint set or gem bu I would have it graded.
It is indeed a nice clashed die error. Keep in mind that hundreds, even perhaps thousands of working dies are used to strike most modern coins. Anytime two dies come together without a planchet between them, the effect seen on Carlos' coin can happen. It is a certainty that more than one pair of dies produces coins with clashes in any given year. Also as the dies strike more coins, the clash marks diminish. This one was an early strike after a solid clash. As Carlos has decided, it would not be worth it to slab the coin especially when what it is is easily identifiable. Nice coin! Bill
I have one that’s probably the first error or clash out of that bunch, with circles on the head side.
