Unknown Date Die Cud?

    Additional Info: I dug a bit deeper to see what coin this could be... the closest year I got was 1989...

    It's a part of the Die that Breaks off. They call it a Cud.

    The Obverse is raised because the metal flows into the void of the broken die. The reverse is a weakness that results as the opposite side is affected. That is a negative Cud.. (I just made that up)

    Both sides look lower to me. And the edge is curved but straight. Can't say I've ever seen a cud like this so trying to understand.

    A negative cud. That's new but I like it. :)

    If you go to cuds on coins they will often have the progression and the early states will have a year. You want to match the edge position EXACTLY to confirm it's that specific coin.

    Unfortunately a lot of work to go through all the possible years.

    I searched at cuds an coins... and that is why I said its a 1989... because there is vartiaty called
    CU-1c-1989-01

    Similar but that's not it.

    And it's just a reference number not a variety.
    Cuds are mint errors and there is a difference.
