I recently purchased a box of antique miscellaneous goods. The box contained a few old war photos, some kind of banknote and a 1943 war ration book. Inside this War ration booklet was a few coupons reading meat, fats, fish and cheese and a small white envelope with 2 coins.
Are these real coins? I tried to find out what I could about them found the names and found that some may not be real but not much else. If these are keepers should I try and clean them?

I'm not an expert on these coins, but they appear to be copies/counterfeits of colonial coins. Cleaning is almost always a terrible blunder. What metal are they made of?

Hi sorry I am not real good with scanning. The larger one has more of a copper hue than the smaller one which seems to look more like a dirty silver with just a hint of copper. Both have a smooth edge. That's about the best I can explain!

    Don't clean them.
#2: No, not real. At least not from those pictures.

These are coins made by my uncle Peter Rosa in the 1960's. The material is lead and antimony alloy which is copper plated. I plan to setup a web site in the future as a reference for collectors of all his early American coin copies.

    Welcome to CoinTalk.

Are you serious that Peter Rosa was your uncle?

Thank you for the replies about these two coins. After I read the reply from "Coinmaker" I did notice they do have that sound of lead. I hope that makes since. I wont clean them. And again thank you for the information.

A book maybe something to do in the future. I first need to organize all the information. I think a blog would be a good place to do this. I hope to launce one in the next couple weeks.

He made reproductions of the 1787 Fucio cent, and a number of different 8 real coins.

Did he rermake the 1796 8 real coin?
Did he remake the Fucio or the Fugio. Because I know there is a variety that actually says Fucio.

I know he made the Fugio cent. I don't know if he made the one that has Fucio. I will be going through all is Americans and posting them on a web site. Some of his Ancient coins are documented in Wayne Sayles book but there is no documentation on his Early American coins. This is going to take a little time since I can only work on it part time.
I'm not sure about the 8 real coin you are referring to. I do not see it on his flyer from the 1960's.
