A cud must include the rim. A cud is formed when a portion of the die breaks off (which MUST include a portion of the rim).
So what would it be called if you have a die break and a piece of the die breaks away that's not near the rim, leaving a blob on the coin? Edit to add: Could it be called a retained die cud?
You may be speaking of a die chip. When a hunk of a die breaks and falls off it usually includes the rim (which would result in a cud).
