It looks to ragged to be an Indented Strike to me! It looks more like a man-made, Post Mint alteration to appear as an Indented Strike.

Maybe, kinda hard to find something just the perfect size to fit inside the rim though. Rim and edge do not appear to be mashed down.

Darn, I must be at least 200 years old then. I don't think I can remember when I went to school.

The first coin asked about is indeed an indent. It is an error.

The second coin seems to be tampered with.

    Thanks,
    Bill

First coin, struck through something that fell on the press before the hammer die made contact. The shape doesn't suggest anything in particular but could be cloth, metal, paper or cardboard. Is there any suggestion of a pattern in the damaged area?

Second coin, heated until the top layer separated from the copper center and bubbled up, then cleaned to remove the heat discoloration.

The first coin is a indent as i said in an earlier post not a strike through.

Indent errors are caused when two planchets are in the coining chamber at the same time. the two planchets may overlap each other, they may rest on top of each other, or they may be of different sizes. There is one exception -the indented srcond strike-which results from a planchet and a struck coin coming together in the coining chamber.
