Mods, please move as needed, didn't really know where to put this one.

I saw some mini breadloaf bars of silver on another site. They are sweet looking and custom made from a reputable dealer. They are .999 silver and range from 13 grams to 19 grams. The coins are pure silver all the wy through and have been bought by other reputable people on that site. He is charginf $1 per gram or a trade.

My question...is this a fair trade:

    I get:

    13 grams bar silver

    He gets:

    1953 Frankie, VF
    1964 Kennedy, XF
    $8 cash

I think I am trading to much, IMO..but maybe bars go for more than melt?

IDK, whatcha think..I want the silver bar, but I just bought a one ounce ASE (an UNC. for $13) for the same price that I can buy this bar..and it (the bar) isn't even a half of an ounce.

I am not a metallurgist, but that trade makes no sense whatsoever.

If the bar weighs 13 grams, then the $8 cash should pay for it. In addition, each one of those halves has almost the same amount of silver as the bar.

To me, it seems like you're paying almost 3x what it's worth. I must be missing something?????

Unless these bars are from a nationally recognised supplier then you would have a hard time getting melt for them later because they would not be recognised as pure silver. Buy for well over melt, sell far below melt. Bad deal in both directions in my opinion.

A dollar a gram equals $31.10 for a troy ounce. Right now, silver spot is $10.88. You're getting hosed by at least $20 per ounce.

Not to mention that at 8x face for your two 90% coins, plus your $8 cash, that's 16 bucks for 13 grams. An even worse deal!

Run, don't walk, away from this one.
