Figured this might be fun to share some new pickups that I've finally gotten around to imaging. Did the cent first, then thought it would be fun to do a type set up to the dollar (not sure if I've posted the 1884 O here before, but why not throw it in to make the complete set.) It's been an interesting past two days here - yesterday my wife and I mailed out some homemade jam to some of our friends who needed some love and kindness, then after going to the grocery store found almost exactly the same amount of cash that I spent on shipping labels lying in a Wendy's parking lot ($71.00 - and the shipping cost me $71.30.) Donated some dry cat food to the local SPCA (our cats didn't seem to like it and we were cleaning up 20 piles of vomit a day) and then witnessed a hit and run on the way to Target to buy a couple birthday presents (the driver almost hit me as they sped past me going about twice the speed limit, right before smashing into about 4 parked cars right in front of me and running a red light before we lost them.) Gave my first ever police statement as a witness today, license plates included, so hopefully we helped those people get some restitution for the damages to their cars. Enjoy some rainbows on an overcast, stormy Philadelphia day!
Certainly have been a busy couple of days. I feel like I'd be doing less work if I had myself a "real" job outside the apartment (I've been looking for a good fit, but hiring freezes and job cuts abound.) Haha...thanks. I think I'd recommend a bite-sized candy bar instead. Who knows what that coin would look like were it to actually get eaten and...emerge...
We made quite a few different flavors, but so far my fave is the honey/lemon with my greek yogurt, granola, and jumbo blueberries. Cherry limeade is a close second but is a LOT more flavor haha I actually have about 5 or 6 different wheat cent dates all with the same reverse toning pattern, must have been an interesting album. Got them from a LCS back in STL who saved me toners (already miss them.)
$71 is an odd amount to find in a parking lot! Three 20s, a 10 and a 1? Hope they found the hit & run culprit, I hate that. Nice coins.
As I was pulling through, the coin collector in me (who ALWAYS scans the ground as I'm traveling; once I found a gold/diamond ring in a bar parking lot on the way to work) spotted the paper money and immediately recognized it as a $20. Smiled and said to my wife, "Go pick it up!" (Obviously not shouting or ordering her around, but trying to convey that it would be well worth the effort to do so.) She comes back and excitedly says, "There is a ***** $50 inside that $20!" (gotta love her) So, of course, I decided to make a second pass through that area and picked off a lowly $1 bill. Yeah, the cops when I called were going to pass me off to someone else until someone else called them literally while I was on the phone (could hear it in the background.) Then they were immediately more interested. Gave them a full description of the make/model/color/plates (took photos) but couldn't see any details of the driver. Now it's up to them to figure out where they are - going to be a rough day for whoever was driving like a moron (speeding, reckless driving, changing lanes without signaling, hit and run, running a red light.)
Let’s just leave that part of the discussion at “I did what I believed was right and my duty as a good citizen and human being, and what I hope someone else would do for me” and leave it at that (before the discussion heads straight off the rails and the thread gets locked.) The coins! The coins are mostly fun! Let’s keep talking about the coins, or just let the thread fade off into oblivion...to be resurrected 15 years from now by numismatic archaeologists. Wish I had some BU peace dollars with this kind of color.
