So, last week I made a poll asking you to vote for your favorite dime design and before that it was the 5 cent piece and the cent. The premise is, the US government has decided to change the quarter to a "historical" design based on a popular vote. So, now that the dime poll has closed...it's time to do it for the quarter. I think I'll do a weekly poll of this fashion just for fun. Again, here are the "rules and circumstances" behind the poll. The US government has decided to change the design on the quarter. They don't want to use a new design but rather bring back the most popular design in US history. They want to change the design on all denominations of our change to reflect the best America has ever used. However, there are some limits. Most notably, the planchet the coin is being struck on. Regardless of the winning design, the coin will be struck on the 5.67g clad reeded rimmed planchet that is currently used. So, you may want to factor that into the decision you make. The poll will run for 7 days and you will only be allowed to vote for one design. RichieB... For me it is the SLQ! When I was a kid I used to find these all the time in the baseball and rereation fields near home! Man..I should go back there and take my Metal Detector...LOL WLH as well....you just brought memories of 48 years ago! Regards, RickieB
Those high grade SLQs are beautiful, they lose the beauty with a lot of wear, whereas the Busties look great when worn. I voted SLQ. Third would be Nevada St. Quarter
Standing Liberty I would have to say the standed liberty quarter tops them I always loved that design very indricate detail a well design coin obverse and reverse. I don't think they have that much popularity ,because They are very exspensive coins to boot. They are in deed a beautiful quarter out of the rest of them jazzcoins joe
SLQ for me of course Problem with collecting them is multiple, like Joe said they are expensive and for a ton of reasons. 1) They never made very many of them, there's 37 Business strike coins in the series, only 10 of those 37 coins had mintages over 10 Million, of thoise 9 were under 15 Million and only 1 was at 27 Million. Less than 227 Million SLQs were ever minted, by the end of 1939 there were over 220 Million washington quarters minted. 2) They didn't hold up, SLQs were highly prone to losing their dates quickly, as we all know. Meanwhile an AG Barber or Washington can easily be identified datewise. So this means no cheap filler coins for key dates as most lower grade pre-25s are not identifiable. 3) The 1916 is the killer, a trashed P/FR dateless example is $1,500, the cheapest I have seen a decent circulated example sell for recently is still over $4,000 (And you can buy a nice MS one for under $15,000). All of this is a shame because they are beautiful coins and I have lots of fun chasing down die varieties, since I got a copy of the Knauss book I don't seem to have a life anymore
The SLQ is one of my all time favorite designs on US coinage. My set that is only 4 strong right now will most likely be a lifelong pursuit as I am attempting to assemble a gem state rainbow toned set. Here is an offering from the present 4. 1924-D NGC MS67 (photos courtesy of Anaconda).
Definately the Standing Liberty , If a type was included the Type 1 is my favorite , The Barber Quarter is second . rzage
the SLQ is my favorite. But they really must have sucked in circulation. The design might be the most intricate business strike ever attempted and they wore poorly. Ruben
