Recently found a James Monroe without any edge lettering in an 2008 Annual Uncirculated Dollar coin set. Relatively new to coin collecting and not sure what to do with it... Do I have it graded?? I have searched on the internet and haven't come across many occurrences of people finding these since the mint screwed up the 2007's. I saw one article mentioned 3 Monroes and 1 Jackson, but I was confused on it coming from 5000 or so sets being sent to the grader.

Anyone know how many of the 2008 dollars have been found with no edge lettering?

Any advice about what I should do to verify my find as well would be helpful as well, novice to collecting and havent had to grade a coin yet.

    Thanks
    Happy New Year!

Can you tell me alittle more about this Set...
If it is from the mint then is it marked D or P? If so then I would call NGC or PCGS and make sure you can send the WHOLE set like it is so they will mark what MINT the coin came from. If this is a 3rd party issued set then I would still send it in, but maybe crack it out of the holder first.

The set is directly from the US Mint, 2008 United States Mint Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set (XA2). Sac dollar from D, 4 Pres dollars from P, and Silver Eagle from W. I would assume being a set from the Mint and the other dollars from P, they will mark it as a P.

I am going to talk to a certified PCGS dealer in my area in the next couple of days ans see what they recommend.

Does this make a rarer find to have been in an uncirculated set, the dollars are satin finish?

    Thanks for the welcome

But you would have to send in the coin still sealed in the holder with the other coins for them to remove inorder to get the mintmark on the holder. If you remove it and just send in the coin and tell them it is a P they have no way of knowing that for sure so they will NOT put the mintmark on the label in that case.
