Hello, I was weighing my nickels today & have a 1972 D nickel weighing in @ 5.2 grams. I weighed it several times along with other nickels, I made sure there was no tare, & that there was nothing else on my scale. Does anyone know of a 1972 D nickel or any other nickel that weighs 5.2 grams? Thank you!

A nickel should weigh 5.0 ± 0.194g. Your coin is either within tolerance or just barely out of tolerance. A weight difference of 6mg out of tolerance is not significant.

Slightly misaligned die strike, on the obverse. The rim from 2-6 o'clock compared to the rim from 7-12 o'clock.

    Within tolerance - very common
to be 1 tenths of a gram + heavy
or light - doesn't mean it's an error.

And if your scale only shows one decimal place it would show 5.2 grams if it weighs over 5.15 grams which is well within tolerance.

Sounds like somebody may have had a chemistry professor that was big on significant figures and weighing techniques

bryantallard show me the money....so i can look through it

actually it's common knowledge you learn as a kid when first learning about decimals. less than 5 round down...5 or more round up.

Minor technicality but rounding, significant figures, and accuracy, are not the same.
