Indeed, the only determinate factor in attributing the coin to Farouk, well, is the damage that "apparently" was overlooked when it was graded by the TPG. But yes, the coin shows signs of being handled, and not gently. That by itself would lend credence to Farouk as he was notoriously careless with very valuable coins. It is known that he showed the coins off to his various "girlfriends".

Excellent idea. I would even like to see them produce a current year peace or morgan dollar. They would probably sell better than the typical commemorative.

That is just plain too much more creativity than the mint can possibly fathom. Frankly they would rather scare the hell out of us with commems like that Eunice Shriver wicked witch of the beast commem from 1996.

I have been thinking that same thing!!!! I would have only given them 1 coin. Don't even mention the other 9. Of course, we don't know all the details. Maybe it came to light that they owned 10 and if they hid that fact, they would have been exposed. Who knows. If they knew all the coins came from the same source, there should be no need to test all the coins. Oh well.

Reap the money? What money? It most likely COSTS them to put them on display. As far as I know they don't charge to see them and the shows are usually free to the public so there is no money coming in, but they have to pay personel, security and insurance whe they display them, plus the cost of shipping them and possibly th personel around the country.

No only a few people who happen to live close to the museums would get to see them. I don't know about you, but I've never been able to see the wonderful collections at the ANA, ANS, Smithsonian, or the British museum. But I have had a chance to see the BEP Billion dollar exhibit, the spider press, and some other really nice exhibits because of traveling displays at shows. Shows will often manage to get closer to me than museums do.

Well considering they have put the collection away in the vaults and have only displayed a few pieces from it in the past three or four years I don't think you are going to see it at one point in your life. And most of what they had on display when it was open was just the Lilly gold collection.. As for feeling they should have one of the 1933 double eagles, you should be happy, they have two, and they used to be on display with the Lilly collection.

Sounds good but you can only do that if the family agrees. If they say no we want our coins back then the government can't go ahead and sell them until ownership is decided by the courts.

they removed the floor and repaced it with glass so you could watch the restoration work on the Star Spangled Banner from above.

We can't and some who were at the 1954 Palace collection sale and saw it have said that it is NOT the Farouk coin.

1st ANA has not have to pay a cent for the security or any of the needs to keep the coin going for show to show.
We do the US tax payer they are still in custody
2nd They are evidence in on going trial.I have never heard so seen evidence in an ongoing trail leave the court till trail is over.
I spent 4year in Washington D.C the coins at the Smithsonian are amazing!!!

My main point was the Justice department wanting to discredit their own expert witness & evidence that is not even in the court room.

I hadn't realized the coin collection was no longer on display. That is really unfortunate. I saw it when I traveled to Washington DC when I was in the 7th grade. I had just gotten interested in collecting coins and seeing that collection really helped me into the hobby faster. But, at the time I didn't know that much about the coins...so I have always wanted to go back now and see them again now that I can really appreciate them. I guess that won't happen anytime soon. :(
