I was not planning to go to the NYINC in January 2021, but I am disappointed to hear this year's show is off the table. I will have to look at our stash from 2020 for now. Can you guess when you will go to a coin show again? I have been to several zoom coin talks or meetings. The best have been from the ANS. My local coin club has met 3 times in Aug & Sept and is scheduled to meet again Monday. Attendance is down a bit. 19 - 22 is about half what we had last year. Our zoom shows were not as popular. There was a show scheduled for last weekend in Beaumont. I do not know if the tropical storm (not covid) cancilled it. http://www.nyinc.info/ Due to issues related to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 49th Annual New York International Numismatic Convention, previously scheduled for January 8-17, 2021 at the Grand Hyatt New York, 109 East 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017, has been cancelled. Hotel reservations made under our official room block will automatically be cancelled by the hotel. All of our official auction companies retain that status and are able to hold their NYINC sales online or at another location of their choice. Contact information for each of our official NYINC can be found below. Please contact them directly or visit their websites for information about their official NYINC auctions. The information that appears below relates to our 50th Annual NYINC, scheduled for Friday, January 7 though Sunday January 16 at the Grand Hyatt NY. Our board and staff look forward to having you join us in 2022. Kevin Foley Bourse Chairman
How disappointing. I was contemplating going again this coming January if it went ahead, taking suitable precautions of course. I haven't been to a coin show since the Jan. 2020 NYINC. Not that I have a history of going to a lot of shows anyway
Sorry to hear that. The virus may shut down the FUN Show in FL too but as of now no decision has been made. [edited]
Yee haw...it's been months since I used the ignore button!!! I tried to ignore this too but couldn't... USA,USA!!!
........I'm sorry I don't understand? I've obviously missed something? I've never actually been to the states but was planning a trip early next year and was looking at this show as a stop off venue so 'What a shame'!
edited Shame you won't be able to attend the show. If I were you, I'd steer clear of the US for awhile.
Ah ok thanks!....Yes a real shame as I was planning a 2 month trip!!...I really do hope that things calm down out there for you all.....
I'm going to the big London Coin Fair on 3rd. Oh wait I'm not. While writing this reply, decided to check on date ☹
A pity about NYINC It looks like the London Coin Fair on 7th November is still scheduled - have to book in advance: https://www.coinfairs.co.uk/london-coin-fair/ The last show I've been to was in Dublin in February. From here I can see the train conductor's cap badge I bought there We've started holding Numismatic Society of Ireland meetings by Zoom - pretty good attendance at the last one. Even had two members in the U.S. in attendance, so I will try to incorporate a Zoom element into the meetings when we do get back to in-person meetings. ATB, Aidan. P.S. Apart from meeting some of the good people from here in NY, the thing I enjoyed most was a pizza in Juliana's
So far, I have been invited to and attended three club meetings in places I do not live and in the next few weeks am giving programs to two of them. I have had Zoom one on one meetings with two CT friends who live in places I will never visit even if Covid disappears altogether. I hope there will be more. One of the meetings I attended was in a place I lived for years and was an officer in the club so it was good to be able to see the few members that were there back then but most were new to me. We are now in a period where human interface is increasingly virtual. Most of us find that a step down but I do see how being able to Zoom in my home is better than driving hundreds or thousands of miles to meetings. I will miss the way we have it today if it all goes away next year. I regret that the Baltimore show has now been cancelled for November and I seriously doubt that they will be up for March or June 2021. The problem I have seen is that those who rushed to reopen seem to have seen more problems than those being conservative. Will I want to be the first to resume going to shows when they start up here? Time will tell.
