I had an uncle who gave his life at the Battle of the Bulge; my dad served in the China Burma India theater until war's end, too, so I am happy to learn of this marketing gimmick, I'll add it to my WWII memorabilia.
I appreciate their service and sacrifice. I would rather have seen an actual coin or medal to commemorate the anniversary. A “privy mark” just seems low effort and like I said, more of a marketing gimmick than anything else.
There is an actual coin, a half ounce gold piece with a face value of $25. It will be released November 9th. https://catalog.usmint.gov/end-of-w...old-coin-20XG.html?cgid=2020-product-schedule
Yes, it's beyond me, too. They are offering it as a medal in silver but I'm not much of a medal enthusiast.
I haven't purchased any medals from the mint. I liked their "alternate" Lady Liberty designs but I missed out on the first one so decided not to collect them.
