Privy, meaning to have knowledge of. A privy mark would be a mark or symbol that would convey knowledge of a certain event/person/place etc. Originally privy marks were symbols placed on the coin to indicate what the mint was , or who the coiner was etc. It made you privy to that knowledge. Technically a mintmark is a privy mark. In the case of this years coin the mark is to make you aware of the 75th anniversary of the Victory. (The V being a commonly used symbol for victory back in WWII)
Still don't have a clue what a "privy mark" is - and seemingly no one else here does either. But the Mint has now set the release date as November 5. Seems kind of . . . random to me (?). But being part of the highly-collected ASE series, and with a total mintage limit of 75000, and a HH limit of one . . . I'm still thinking this is going to be the hottest coin of 2020. Going to try to get one myself and have my kid get one for me.
@Virginian. "A privy mark, in general terms, is a symbol that communicates information about a coin's production..." The above quote is from the US Mint.
Don't know how I missed it. Really don't. Now that I see it . . . thanks for the explanation. And to Thomas Mozzillo.
