I was looking for these coins in good condition for a long time and I ended up with two in pretty bed shape :) . Usually dealers call them crusader imitations of an Islamic fals of the Zangids of Syria , which is already copying a Byzantine follis of Constantine X . Are there any supporting references rather than dealers descriptions exist ?

Thank you . Very interesting . But the coins in question are not Zangids of Aleppo A-1850 . I don’t have the Album book, but I just found out on FORUM that Stephen Album suggests that the crude imitations of A-1850 were perhaps struck by the crusaders.

    From Forum also:

The imitations are subsumed under Album 1850 where the author notes, "There are many minor variations of this type, as well as some blundered imitations, perhaps struck by the Crusaders."

Mr. Album's Checklist of Islamic Coins has recently been made available as a free PDF download at his website stevealbum.com.
