Working on an impossibility - one Civil War token from each of the 400 issueing towns. Long way to go, as I only have 202 of them covered. The toughest town I have is a Hartford City, West Virginia - 2 varieties known, 2-4 examples of each known. There are several entire states which have known cwt populations of 10 or less, so I would consider myself lucky just to see one of those. Even the Fulds, who owned about a half million cwts, did not have a complete town set.

I am two dates from completing my Lincoln Memorial Proof set. The big one is a 1976 PR69DCAM that is holding me up.

Also, I am looking for MS65 or better IKES. As my eyes go, I appreciate the big coins more so than the smaller ones.

I, too, am working on Lincoln cents and Kennedy halves. Circulated, plus uncirculated from each year they weren't released for circulation. I wasn't that interested in Kennedys until I realized how close I was to having a complete date set.

Something else I'm working on--I'm trying to figure out how I can get a monthly budget for coin collecting. I think I'd like to set aside 20$ for that purpose (I know--Big Spender!). Alternately, if I can get back into painting like I should, I could set aside a certain percentage from each painting I sell. This might really prompt me to work on selling, being more of a businessman about it, etc. :)

I have WAY to many collections going, but here goes:

Type set of 50C commemoratives in Gem BU
-this one is going to take me a lifetime ;)

Type set of modern $1 commemoratives, proofs.

Type set of modern .50 commemoratives, proofs

Complete set ( proofs included ) of the 50 state quarters.

I consider the state quarters commemoratives, so my main focus Is commemoratives I guess ;)

Type set of US coins including gold ( using a dansco album )
-Picking out choice coins, key dates or sleepers when I can afford them.

Complete set of Jefferson nickels to date including proofs. ( dansco again )
-Full step well struck ones only, i have a nice complete set of circulated already.

Set of silver Roosevelt dimes graded NGC ms-64+
-Trying to get gemBU full torch when i can, for my set registry.

Those are my main sets i am working on, I also have a solid collection of Mexican silver coins, currency ( mostly non-US ) and bullion coins from china, the Australian lunar series, silver britanias, etc.

I also have odds and ends, coin collecting is way to much fun! ( and expensive )

Sorry it took so long to reply to your question. We were camping, and just got back.

Started my Franklin Half Dollar collection just a few weeks ago, thanks to the generosity of QueenKoin who sent me several beauties to get me started.

I am collecting my date and mint. Have five holes left to fill: 1949, 50, 50D, 57, and 61D.

Have never worried much about obtaining high quality coins. More interested in filling all the spaces and completing collections. On the other hand, I try for as nice of coin as I can obtain.

The Washington 1932D is in my safety deposit box, I think. I hope. Believe it or not, it is in very good condition and I found it many years ago in pocket change.

    :) :)

With a broad topic such as "Spanish Empire & Colonial" it makes some sense to do as you have, to buy what looks good and then add them to the subsets. As the subsets fill up, you then have targets to pursue, want lists to chase and so on. If you want to collect Assayers, you can do that in parallel, having coins of different denominations. Once you have the assayers, you can backfill the denominations. Many options are open.

After all of that -- or heck, before all that -- there is the literature. I just bought a copy of the Sociedad Numismatica de Mexico reprint of Riddell's book on Spanish dollars.

A nice Panama-Pacific Commemorative would round everything out, wouldn't it? :)

I keep saying that I don't collect material. I just buy what I need for articles and research. So...

I am working on Counts of Champaigne (Hugh-Thibaut IV). I have all the counts, but not all the towns or all the counts from the mints of all the towns. This is a for an article about the great medieval fairs at Troyes, whence the "troy ounce."

I am working on Central Mining Company of Eagle Harbor, Michigan. I have the $1, $2, $5, $10, and $15. I need the $2 to complete the set.

Those are for a presentation on Obsoletes. I bought one ("because I like it") from Adrian, Michigan, a town about 50 km (30 miles) from here. What I need to do is get the locals from Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County. Also for the Obsoletes, I need a Suffolk Bank of Boston and a Chemical Bank of New York.

I am always working on my library. I mentioned the Riddell book about Spanish dollars. At the same convention, I also bought a copy of Andrew Pollock's US Patterns and Related Issues.

Year and Mint Mark set of Lincolns, and the new State Quarters, as well as a one per country world collection. The silver proof sets for each year, and pretty much anything that I can afford that suits my eye.

My problem is what am I not collecting!! I would make room in my collection for just about any coin minted. My lack of focus on a particular set (or the way I look at my enthusiasm for all coins) has left me with many unfinished sets. I did just finished an MS63+ Kennedy set. Currently I have going a circ Walking Libery and an MS WL set, a PR69 DCAM PCGS ASE set, a MS60+ Buffalo (the old ones), an MS60+ Peace Dollar set, an Ike MS66+ set, an MS 62 NCG Indain Quarter Eagle set (my favorite), and finally I'm trying to finish with off some PR69 Sacs. Add that to about 10 other collctions Ive started in the past, and you wonder why I have so few coplete sets.
