It is a proof, but I have actually never collected proof Jefferson’s so I’m prolly not the best to expand upon grade or value.
So FMV puts value here, I just don’t know enough about grading to figure out where I would fall. Still pretty good for $5 I think.
There's no market for proof Jeffs. Again I gave John 45 proofs all registery quality deep cams ,cams all quality not 1 sold! I recall this weekend seeing a post of someone here buying a proof Jeff 69 deep cam for $5.50 ! It would cost at least $35 to have it graded. Who ever sold it gave it away.
I’m not sure why you continue to extrapolate your anecdotal example to declare that the entire Jefferson Registry market has collapsed. It hasn’t. And again, PCGS Auction Price Guides tell a much different story than yours. Auction Prices for 1942-P Proof Jefferson Nickel You say you had 45 Registry Quality Jefferson Nickels for sale. Were they moderns or early Jeffs? What venue was used? We’re the auctions or BIN? If they were auctions, what were the reserves in relation to price guide? If they were BIN, what were the list prices in relation to price guide? How long were they for sale. It is normal for it to take a year or more for me to move a Registry quality Jefferson at retail value on eBay. My broader point is that the Jefferson market hasn’t collapsed just because you experienced difficulty liquidating your collection.
It’s impossible to grade proofs from photos but I would estimate yours to be in the PR64-65 range as long as there aren’t hidden hairlines or something like that which would negatively impact the grade. Can you get better photos?
Acetone dip and then distilled water? Is there a way to remove the Haze inside the unopened proof set?
The problem with modern proofs is that they are so prevalent in PF70 DCAM that registry collectors only want the 70’s, making anything less have little value.
Also, the PCGS value on that coin is only $15. So, while GH#75 was able to get it at 63% off retail, in absolute terms it was still only a $9.50 discount. So, the seller didn't exactly take a bath on it.
Proof war nickels? I'm starting to wonder when you're going to post that Mercury dimes won't bring anything above melt unless they're super-high grade, so that VF 1916-D is worth maybe $2...
I bought a set of uncirculated Jefferson war nickles and uncirculated set of Lady Lib war dimes. The 41 s had been replaced. All the coins have nice toning, not prooofs but pretty coins
Wait dont try to put words in my mouth as I said NOTHING about proof war issues. You said that,...' I said'.... "I see the Jefferson market down in general"...and I said the John @C-D-B had 45 regisrty grade proofs of mine on cosignment, and not 1 sold at par, he reduced them no offers no sales....however one did bean. As he sent it in with his last batch. I said nada about Mercury dimes at all....read whats said not what you wish to believe. And I'll add this...if anyone can flip a coin or roll of coins at a profit good for you!
@Paddy54 , he was probably being hyperbolic intentionally in order for you to recognize the hyperbolic nature of your own posts on the subject. Again, I specialize in Jefferson Nickels and I don’t see the “doom & gloom” that you claim exists within the Jefferson market.
I'm here now. Yes, I consigned the Jeffersons for Paddy. Got a single offer on one coin after opening it up to best offers, following 2 weeks with no sales. Yes, they were priced at retail. Nice group of coins, but it honestly seems like no one collects Jeffersons except the registry set guys who only was the monster toned top pops. I suspect they play the upgrade game a lot. I sent this one in to CAC and it passed, ( though I need to photograph it with the bean now).
