    Hi guy & gals,

I have this 1975 Lincoln Error penny with a Misaligned Die on the Obverse and Vertical stripes running through the metal. Is this due to an improper alloy mix or Roller Marks? 1975 Lincoln Penny (Obverse)2.jpg 1975 Lincoln Penny (Reverse).jpg

looks like a woodie/mixed alloy. don't know about the misaligned die wait for more opinions about that.

    Yes to a Woodie.

The misaligned die is so slight it's not a factor. (Bottom rim is thicker and the top rim is thinner.) I think the wood grain appearance is a result of an improperly mixed alloy.

    Definitely a MAD Woodie.

Can someone explain why people think this coin is a Woodie and not from Roller lines? My guess was that the vertical lines were Roller lines.

I consider the lines on this coin to be roller lines because they are of consistent width and evenly spaced. Improper alloying is due to inconsistent composition regions in the melt. As these are cast into an ingot in random sizes and locations, then rolled out, it would highly unlikely that they would form evenly spaced domains of varying compositions.
