Hi, What are your opinions on the best way to store coins. I have a small collection of 1/2, 1, 2, 4, 8 real silver mexican coins from 1730's to 1905. I would like them to be safe/secure however I enjoy looking at them as well. I was thinking a binder like situation would be nice -- if so, what kind of pages (and sizes) should I get? Have you found a better way to store coins but still be able to easily view them? Obviously I would like to keep cost reasonable as well. Thanks, David
Well my favoured method is a nice mahogany cabinet... but that won't fit into the 'reasonable' pricewise... i don't use any other method these days. GD will be along shortly to point out that a) he expected me to say this and b) that it outdated and not entirely ideal.
My personal preference is Air-Tite holders - about 50 cents each. But if you do a Search for the word storage here on Coin Talk you will find numerous discussions on the subject.
Thanks, I should have rephrased my question: I have seen a lot of info on how to store older American coins but I am having a hard time finding the correct ways to store Mexican-sized coins (1730's - 1905). I would like an airtight holder in a binder sort of set-up. Do you know what size airtights to buy for these coins? Also, are there binders made for Mexican coins? All the binders I have seen are specailly made for certain issues of US coins. Are there binders where you can add/remove pages for different sized airtights? I am fairly new to collecting so please pardon me if this is a fairly stupid question.
They make Air-Tites in all sorts of sizes from 10mm to 42mm - the coins will fit fine. They're no different than US coins in that respect. Go visit JP's Corner - they have best prices and the binders as well.
