FF02, not so much actually..Metal detectorists finds mostly Byzantine bronze coins or gold coins, but I don't know anyone found Byzantine silver coins..On my fields, silver is really rare as far as Byzantine is concerned...
I believe byzantine silver is rare on most fields. Question was for "any coin". I was curious also on the answer, because I do not see uncleaned byzantine lots on the market. Maybe I look in the wrong place. Considering how most of the coins look lately in the auction, I assume most finds are more or less cleaned and sold "by the piece" as cleaned coins. Would be interesting to get my hands one day on some freshly dug uncleaned byzantines.
Catadc, next time, if I find Byzantine coin, I will post a photos..Its interesting that unlike ancient Roman bronze coins, bronze Byzantine coins have a very thin layer of dirt...
