    I looked at that penny for a long time trying to figure how I could get a serious injury from it. I guess the injury would be to my wallet.

    NO WAY! I thought I’d never see one of these rarities!!
    This is the 1967-P FS-911 Crystallized Die variety. Nice bright red, BU coin!
    It appears brown, but that’s just an optical illusion caused by this unique variety. You can see that crystals (based on the needle-like shape, it’s likely iodine - from die cleaning solution) condensed onto the die before the planchet was struck, causing the random, nick-like indentations on both sides of the coin. Occasionally, the crystals will grow to partially fill the die also, as observed on ‘LIBERTY’.
    However, once the first planchet is struck, these crystals immediately evaporate and future pressings of the same die will show no evidence of the error.
    It’s definitely a bargain at $2k, as I’m sure the new owner will be featured on the cover of the new, 6th Ed. Vol. 1 of the Cherrypicker’s Guide.
    Wish I could afford it!!
